How to win in the competition? Can I protect my invention?

Some facts:

• According to Download.com in the world is 197 348 software for Windows.
• According to research company Netcraft on December 1, 2009 there were 33 848 493 web-sites online.
• Now in the world is 3.5 millions of applications for patents in the review process.
• Trademark IPhone from 2000 year is owned by Cisco.
• The volume of world licenses each year, growing by 12%.
• In today’s world, there are more than 25 million trademarks.
• Microsoft spends on litigation to $ 100 million dollars each year.

Startup Flickr entered the market full of photo sharing services, where have been powerful players such as Fotolog, Buzznet or Webshots. However, in the year through the use of Web 2.0 and targeted to users, the project has achieved popularity and was sold to Yahoo for 20-30 million dollars. Videos on the Internet existed long before the emergence of Youtube, but the distribution of video constrain some problems, which tried to solve project founders at February 2005. And in October 2006 Google bought Youtube for 1.65 billion dollars. Before the advent of Twitter such thing as mikrobloging doesn’t exist. But that fact do not prevent the company to launch, develop and grow to more than 60 million users.
